  • Nights of June

    I wrote you another postcard.  They are getting to be a familiar sight, aren't they?  I've been drinking a lot of wine this summer and really exploring with some deep, longform two hour sets.  Songs I havn't played in years, songs I've never played, songs I'm writing.  It's easy to do in the shade of the nice Flying Otter pavillion out in the pastoral woods of Lenawee County.  You can be witness on Friday, June 14th at 6pm.

    The following week, it's back to the city for the opening week of the annual Ann Arbor Summer Festival.  I'll be doing a set at Top of the Park located at Ingalls Mall on the U of M campus.  I'm the 6pm act on June 18th at the acoustic Grove Stage.  For you Michigan beer fans, there will be a big tasting that night by Traverse City's Right Brain Brewery at the beer garden right next to my stage.  Then the night gets even better when England's Django Django headlines the festival next door at the Power Center.  They released my favorite record of the year in 2012 and I'm excited to finally see them play live.

  • Into Summer

    I've got three regional shows coming up next weekend as we head into summer.  First up is a benefit show for my friend and fellow musician Chris Buhalis on Thursday, May 30th at the Yellow Barn in Ann Arbor. 

    The following night on May 31st, it's another night of longform singing at Flying Otter Winery down in Lenawee County.  I start at 6pm.  I wrote you a postcard about it...

    Then I'm going to take a day off.  Possibly, I will go out in my kayak or maybe meet some friends to drink beer and enjoy the summer.  But on Sunday, June 2nd I've got a lot of songs to sing at my favorite local bar Old Town Tavern.  That's happening at 8pm.  Even though I haven't lived nearby for years, I still consider Old Town my "local".  Here's a poster...

    Many more shows are coming this summer.  Check back and I'll tell you something about them.

  • On Thursday, May 30th, I'll be playing a few songs at this benefit show / birthday bash for my friend Chris Buhalis.  Chris was about to begin recording his long awaited second album when he severely injured his hand in a table saw accident.  This is any guitarist's nightmare and it's going to be long road to recovery for him.  Chris is an excellent songwriter and well-loved fixture in the Ann Arbor folk scene.  Many other great local folk and acoustic staples will be performing and in addition to helping a nice guy out, you'd be seeing a really nice show.  The concert will be held at the Yellow Barn in Ann Arbor.

  • Spring in Lenawee County

    After surviving the tempestuous weather of April in Lenawee County, it's time again for my monthly gig at Flying Otter Winery in Adrian.  A quiet wooden pavilion set against a backdrop of trees overlooking the vineyard, it's the perfect location to listen to some deep cuts from my catalog and hear me woodshed some newer material.

  • 2013 Blowout

    I'll be making two appearances at this year's Metro Times Blowout.   On Thursday, April 25 it's the Blowout Pre-party at The Magic Stick in Detroit and I'll be joining The Sights on stage during their special all-star set.  The following night on April 26 we've got a full band State Park set at Small's in Hamtramck just before our friends The Hard Lessons hit the stage.  The Blowout is one of my favorite times of the year and I'm so pleased to be performing again in 2013.  Even if you don't catch our set, you've got two weekends of amazing bands to enjoy in the Detroit area.  Cheers! -TM

  • Under the Stars

    Erase your work week with several glasses of Lenawee County's finest vintage at Flying Otter Winery.  On Friday night I'll be making my first outdoor appearance of the year strumming personally historical ballads on my old blonde guitar.  6-8pm.  Let it be your low-key primer for an evening out or your main event before you fade into the cool calm weekend.  But whatever you do, let it be.

  • Winter Shows

    It's been a quiet and pensive winter, but at last the cabin fever has gotten the best of me.  I'm going to leave my house to do a couple of shows next week and I hope you'll consider venturing out with me.

    First of all, I'll be doing a short performance and interview tonight (February 24) on Tree Town Sound, one of Ann Arbor's local radio shows.  Tune in to 107.1FM at 6pm tonight to hear it.

    On Thursday, February 28 I'm joining up with local songwriter Samantha West to play the popular Acoustic Night series at The Ugly Mug Cafe in Ypsilanti.  That's this coming Thursday night from 7-9pm.  I'll be playing second and the show is free.

    On Sunday, March 3 I'll be making my debut at the wonderful house concert series at Salt of the Earth in Fennville, MI.  That's over on the west side of the state near Saugatuck.  I'm told the food is very good and the listening room sounds great.  This show also starts at 7pm and I'll be opening for Drew Nelson.

    These are all solo shows, but I'll be back with some State Park shows coming up in April to celebrate the thawing of winter.

  • My friend and fellow songwriter Patrick Herek is opening up his home for a new monthly house concert series called The Midwestern Living Room in Northville, Michigan.  He and I will be playing the inaugural show together on Saturday, January 26th.  Space is limited, so if you’d like to attend, please RSVP to him at pherek@gmail.com. 

    Pat is one of my oldest friends and favorite musical collaborators.  We began performing together at age 13 and he is still one of the most impressive musicians I’ve ever heard.  Over the years we have appeared on each other’s albums, played in each other’s bands and shared our musical visions together whenever possible.  This show in the intimate setting of his living room will draw on material from our individual and collective careers.

    The suggested donation for the show is $15.  Some appetizers along with beer, wine and soda will be provided, but feel free to bring your own beverage as well.  Again, please RSVP to pherek@gmail.com if you want in.

  • Mittenfest VII

    I'll be launching the new lineup of Timothy Monger State Park at this year's Mittenfest in Ypsilanti.  This year marks another impressive roster of great bands over a five night period at Woodruff's Bar.  We'll be playing at 9:30pm on Sunday, December 30th.

    Thanks to Jenny Harley for another brilliant poster design.  According to her annotated Michigan counties map, our state park is located way up in Ontonagon County on the Western edge of the U.P.  A fine choice.
